Modern Day Bully

One of my biggest pet peeves - when someone snaps an unflattering picture of a stranger and then posts it on Facebook for all their friends to laugh!

That's what I call a "Modern Day Bully"!!

Are you a modern day bully???

Posting a picture of a stranger for laughs is the equivalent of kids on the play ground saying,"HAHA LOOK AT THAT GIRL!" It's unbelievably rude and immature! What's worse is that those I've witnessed doing this are all Christians! We are called to LOVE and  PROTECT!

I feel like no one is allowed to make a mistake, if we do someone will capture it and post it! It's horrible! Who cares if someone is wearing ugly clothes, or has messy hair, or is abnormally tall or fat? Taking a picture for laughs is really mean! If someone trips and falls, help them up, don't post a video! Where's the love? Especially from Christians!

Anytime I see a "modern day bully" post I always make a point to speak up, even though many times those laughing turn their laughs at me, calling me sensitive or blah blah blah. It's worth standing up for what's right!! Exploiting strangers is not cool! It's pathetic! And I don't know how they sleep at night, knowing they created a platform to harass the person in their picture!

If you have a hard time discerning what's appropriate and loving to post, ask yourself, "What if it was me?" or "Is my post creating a platform that mocks, bullies and humiliates someone else?", better yet, "Would Jesus post this?"

Remember as Christians we are called to love & protect!

Someone

I was reading Mark 9 Sunday morning before church and the "someone" in verse 38 caught my attention.

(ESV) "John said,"Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, b/c he was not following us."

(NIV)“Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”

(THE MESSAGE) "Teacher, we saw a man using your name to expel demons and we stopped him because he wasn't in our group."

Talk about boldness and courage!! This "someone" was not one of the disciples and I wonder what made him think He could use Jesus' name on His own?!? Nowadays we know about using HIS name, it's been preached and taught on every platform. It's Christianity 101.

Back when Jesus' 1st disciples walked the earth, it was all new, only those Jesus had taught and appointed himself knew about the authority they had access too. This impresses me because the "someone" in Mark 9:38 took it upon himself to join in. He must have observed Jesus at some point,  seen the disciples in action, or heard stories through the grape vine and decided, "I want that!". Talk about initiative!

Think about it, what if I tried using your name to buy something?!?! You'd be like, "Excuse me! I don't know you like that! What gives you the right to use MY name?"

This "someone" did just that! He decided to use Jesus' name! He wasn't one of the chosen, in their group, or hand picked by Jesus, and yet he must have been a Christian who wanted to do more than stand by and watch. He wanted to participate! And he did!

The disciples were not thrilled about his eagerness and tried to stop him, but look how Jesus responds,

"Jesus wasn't pleased. "Don't stop him. No one can use my name to do something good and powerful, and in the next breath cut me down. If he's not an enemy, he's an ally. Why, anyone by just giving you a cup of water in my name is on our side. Count on it that God will notice."  THE MESSAGE

I love how Jesus wasn't upset with the "someone", he was actually displeased with his own disciples for trying to stop him. There is something to be said about taking initiative! "Someone" didn't care if he was part of the "IT team", he just wanted to help do the works of the ministry and Jesus let him!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

Happy New Year!

Congratulations! We all made it another year! That's something to rejoice over! Think about all the people who didn't make it?!? Agh! Not such a happy thought! So, feel blessed! We're here for a reason!!!!!!!!!! :-)

Every time another year rolls around I see people get on their soap boxes preaching about how making New Year's resolutions are bad, pointless and a waste of time! I personally don't agree! I think we all need a chance to start over, re-evaluate, organize and aim our arrows! I love New Years!

We all need a little motivation and New Years does that! So I say, "GOOD!!" Maybe our plans will fall to the ground and never see past February, or maybe they'll take off and soar to heights we never imagined! Either way I think it's worth dreaming, worth planning, worth getting excited about going on a living spree every New Year!

FAITH is the currency of HEAVEN! Every New Year people are filled with FAITH that maybe, just maybe they can do what they've always failed at before! If that's you, continue to build your FAITH! This is your year! This is my year! We can do whatever we believe we can!

I think the reason most of our New Year's goals never come to pass is because life gets in the way and we forget our vision of victory! So to avoid this, let's write our vision down and hang it somewhere we can see and read every morning! Keeping the goal in front of us will insure we don't forget what's important about this new year! :-)

The ONE line from Journey is in my heart about this New Year,

"Don't stop believing, hold on to that feeling"

My goals:
1. Get in shape! (Weight loss is on almost EVERY girl's resolution list!) It's worth going for!!!
2. Publish 2 more books!! (at least)
3. Draw closer to the Lord and experiance His supernatrual ability more in my life
4. Learn to love, support and build my husband the way he needs. God made me a help mate! :-)
5. Be a better friend. Be a people builder! :-)
6. Read more books
7. Go out of my way to make new friends!!

I have many other goals, but these are the main ones! Everything else will come as a result of meeting and maintaining these main goals!

Don't let the New Year's Grinches steal your joy!! It's always worth getting pumped up and excited about making positive change in our lives!
